You should look into trigger point therapy for your back, Stinn and Levi got me hooked on it a while back. There is medical documentation and it seems to be well known in the medical community. I borrow their Theracane when I am hurt and it helps alot.

I am already hooked. We have a theracane at home and I attribute trigger point therapy to clearing up both some shoulder issues and some nasty triggers in the gluteus that refered pain to my lower back. Thanks for the golden suggestion though, trigger point therapy definitively deserves to get better known.
This back issue seemed transient though and I have continued on towards near max weights on the deadlift (blog needs to catch up). I am just about to finally accept the fact that I am finally healed.
