Den första satsen blev superojämn. Ett rivjärn är lösningen på dylika problem, men vi bytte trots allt till en bättre deg. I samma veva lade vi också in en skeppslucka ner i skrovet. De nordliga haven är trots allt kalla även för härdade veterantomtar.
Blame the dough or the baker, but the first pieces were not precisely even. A grater is the tool of the trade for uneven edges, but we ended up making another batch with a better dough. In the process, we also added a hatch into the interior of the ship. After all, it can get very chilly in the Northern Seas, even for veteran elves.

Bogpartiet fanns med redan i våra originalritningar, men bitarna passade dåligt. Det fungerade mycket bättre att experimentera fram en bra bog av papp. Efter att bitarna satt som de skulle skar vi botten av bitarna diagonalt för att ge skeppet bättre vågbrytningseffektivitet.
Our original drawings had included a bow, but it just didn't fit well. Modelling the pieces with some cardboard worked well. After the bow fit right, we cut the bottom of the pieces diagonally for the proper shape.

It took a lot of melted sugar to get this beast of a mast, made from giant oak naturally, to stand.
För att få lite vind i den blivande piratflaggan lät vi biten hårdna över en liten kniv. Seglen utsattes för samma behandling. Det är viktigt att tänka efter lite innan man böjer så att vinden inte ser ut att ha fnatt.
To create some wind in the pirate flag to be, it was left to harden over a small knife. The same technique was also applied to the sails. Just remember to bend them in similar directions, wind does not move in mysterious ways...

Det färdiga kortet som skickades ut till släkt och vänner. Den häftiga bakgrunden bestod av presentpapper och ljus placerades intill båten för att ge ett trevligt ljus. Som vanligt skruvade vi också upp färgmättnaden lite grann för att infoga lite extra julvärme. Ack, om alla julkort skulle bli så här lyckade.

As usual the saturation and brightness were also turned up a bit to infuse some extra Christmas warmth into the picture. This one definitively set the standard, unsurpassed to date in the Karjalainen-Lindqvist family...
